How does the water flow into the drain? Are they even functional or just for show?

If you have watched the latest episode of Vogue’s 73 Questions, you may have glimpsed a few intriguing design concepts in Kim Kardashian’s US$60 million (approximately RM249 million) home. The most baffling feature that got the Internet probing further, however, was her bathroom sinks.

At first glance in the video, the sinks looked like typical countertops, or rather, a kitchen island, since they are not attached to the wall. But then why were there faucets and pin-head sized slits on the flat surface? How does the water flow into the drain? Are they even functional or just for show?

Rest assured, we now have all the answers…and more.

“Since everyone is a little bit confused about our sinks, I thought I would just show you guys a little tour,” the social media and reality TV star said in her Instagram story.

While taking her 134 million followers on another bathroom tour, she revealed that her husband Kanye was one of the minds behind its minimalist design (no surprises here). The bathroom features a patio, a light box ceiling, a bath tub big enough to fit all three – soon to be four – of her kids and a shower area.

“So, the sinks,” she finally addressed. “Kanye drew this. Kanye, Axel Vervoordt and Claudio Silvestrin all did this sink and Claudio was the one that it should be separated from the wall. It used to be up against the wall but we thought it would be cooler this way.”

“Eight versions of this prototype sink were made and it does actually slope down, which you can see. There’s a slit for the water and it goes in. You can put it on as high pressure as you want and no backsplash will come up,” she added, turning the tap on for effect.

But the tour didn’t stop there. Much to the delight of her followers, Kim proceeded to reveal other unique features of her home, including the light switches and a hidden, retractable TV.

Apparently, the three switches, which look more like small buttons on the wall with no box around it, function to on, dim and off the lights. Meanwhile, her bedroom TV camouflages as the floorboard until the press of a remote draws it out to unveil a 130-inch screen. Care to guess what’s on display?
