After joining forces in 2021 to present the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black and the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Sapphire Rainbow, Hublot and Takashi Murakami are now bringing them back in NFT form.
Two NFT digital works inspired by the limited-edition watches were unveiled by Hublot during the Watches & Wonders convention in Geneva. The launch of the NFTs represents a new phase in the collaboration between the Swiss luxury watchmaker and acclaimed Japanese artist that further stretches the limits of artistic expression.
Featuring the iconic smiling flower motif that has become synonymous with Murakami’s work and his Superflat art movement, the static NFTs will come in a limited edition of 216 pieces for the All Black version and 108 for the Sapphire Rainbow version.
The digital NFT creations are said to be mainly intended for the current owners of the limited edition watches, who are entitled to claim their free NFT through Hublot’s e-warranty protection and warranty system.
Later in May, Hublot will open a page on the decentralised non-fungible token marketplace for owners to exchange their NFTs. Following its unveiling at Watches & Wonders, a guerrilla marketing style promotional campaign for the Hublot x Takashi Murakami NFTs will involve posters covertly put up in London and New York and giant light projections on landmark buildings.
A limited number of the NFTs will be made available to the public in May 2022.
