In this heat and uncertainty, staying indoors is probably our best bet for now. However, staying in does not mean staying bored, especially if you can mix up a drink or two and have your own party with family and friends.
Lucky for us, Hennessy Malaysia brought us a small virtual party where we got to connect with a few readers and mix up two delicious cocktails specially created by guest bartender Arsenio “Ash” Mariano Jr.
A little creativity, a splash of resourcefulness with a medley of local ingredients and a peg of Hennessy V.S.O.P brought us two cocktails called Hennysea and Hennessy Kam respectively.
Mix up your own drinks with the recipes below and watch the fun we got up to guided by Ash in the video above.
Hennysea
Inspired by Ash’s love for Southeast Asian spices and influences, this cocktail draws its flavours from the exotic herbs and spices from the region.
It is refreshingly tart at first sip from citrus and turmeric before it takes on a sweet note from the pineapple. Finally, it lingers at the end on the tongue with a mild spice from the galangal, intensified by the fragrance of basil leaves.
Ingredients:
45ml Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège
45ml Fresh Pineapple Juice
15ml Fresh Lime Juice
20ml Turmeric & Galangal Syrup
2 Sprigs of Thai Basil as garnish
Method:
- Pour all the ingredients except the Thai Basil into a shaker with ice and shake well.
- Strain and pour the contents into a glass.
- Garnish with the Thai Basil, and serve.
Ingredients for Turmeric & Galangal Syrup:
500g Honey
500ml Hot Water
150g Turmeric
200g Galangal
Half teaspoon of Black Pepper
Method:
- Blend all ingredients and fine strain into a bottle.
- Hold a towel over the blender cover to avoid hot steam scalding hand.
Hennessy Kam
In the spirit of Chinese New Year, Ash brings forth a cocktail that puts the Mandarin orange, otherwise known as kam in Chinese, front and centre.
Unlike regular oranges, the Mandarin orange is laden with honey notes that make for a rounded and sweet cocktail. Lemon juice lends it a vibrance while pandan syrup wraps things up with a creamy sweetness. To really hone in on the Chinese New Year vibes, dried chrysanthemum flowers are sprinkled on top.
Ingredients:
50ml Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège
30ml Mandarin Orange Juice
15ml Pandan Syrup
15ml Lemon Juice
Dehydrated Orange and Chrysanthemum Flowers as garnish
Method:
- Pour all the ingredients except the dehydrated orange and chrysanthemum flowers into a shaker with ice and shake well.
- Strain and pour the contents into a glass.
- Garnish with the dehydrated orange, chrysanthemum flowers and serve.
