The eighth of Glenmorangie’s Private Edition range of whiskies is inspired by the sweetest and most prized of Madeira wines – the Malmsey wine.
Think Madeira and one thinks immediately of its wine and warmth, two delicious entities made possible thanks to its gilded subtropical climate.
The sun there is a different kind of golden, rendering everything it touches a different kind of wholesome and it is this very unique feature that has spurred Glenmorangie to dedicate its latest Private Edition whisky to the rays and roams of Madeira.
The Bacalta, the eighth of the range, is inspired by the sweetest and most prized of Madeira wines – the Malmsey wine.
First, bespoke American oak casks are created, heavily toasted, and then seasoned with Malmsey wine. Emptied, the casks are then shipped to Scotland and filled with specially selected spirits which were previously matured in ex-bourbon barrels. The Malmsey seasoned casks lend the Glenmorangie Bacalta an almost endless complexity, bespoke from cask to bottle.
The result is a spirit that comes with a distinctive layer of sun-baked goodness, with a complex fruity and sweet character, a burst of Madeira’s sunshine in a glass.
Each glass is like cupping sunshine in your hands and each sip brings to your palate layers of baked fruit and honeyed sweetness radiating with the best native flavours of Madeira’s island shores.
