The new, AI-powered HP OmniBook X Flip 14 is built for precisely this, featuring a solid, recycled-metal chassis and a 360-degree hinge that moves between four distinct modes. It can function as a standard laptop, flip into a compact travel cinema, or fold flat into a creative canvas – all from one device.
The promise of a ‘one-device-for-everything’ is always compelling on paper, but the experience is what matters. So, we put the OmniBook X Flip 14 to the test, from the office to the sofa, to find out if it’s a lifestyle upgrade or just a high-tech novelty.
A premium, versatile, and modern design
From the moment we unboxed it, the OmniBook X Flip 14 felt premium. It’s light at just over 1.4kg, but it has that reassuring density we’ve come to associate with quality builds, rather than flimsy shells. While convertible hinges are often a failure point – feeling wobbly and insecure – this device’s is a highlight. Its precision-engineered hinge moves with a smooth, fluid motion and then holds firm with zero screen-wobble when you’re typing.
This tactile, design-forward philosophy continues with the keyboard. HP has opted for a lattice-less layout, creating a unified, minimalist look. Functionally, the typing experience is soft, quiet, and satisfying, with clean backlighting for late nights. While this edge-to-edge design looks highly aesthetic, it might take a moment to get used to if you’re coming from a traditional, spaced-out keyboard.
Vibrant visuals, impressive audio
Simply put, the 14-inch OLED screen is gorgeous. Colours are vibrant and blacks are inky-deep – not just dark grey – making everything from a simple spreadsheet to a 4K movie render with clarity. The 120Hz refresh rate makes every scroll and swipe feel buttery-smooth, and the 16:10 aspect ratio gives you that extra bit of vertical space for browsing.
The flip side to this beautiful, glossy panel is that it’s highly reflective, acting as a mirror in direct sunlight, and a magnet for fingerprints. You’ll find yourself angling it away from windows or bright lights to dodge reflections.
And the audio? It lives up to the visual treat. You get rich, clear audio for movies, courtesy of speakers tuned by Poly Studio. However, the catch is their downward-facing placement. While the audio projects well on a hard table, the sound gets muffled when you’re watching a movie in bed. But while the speaker performance is situational, the AI-enhanced microphones are a clear win, filtering out background noise so you come through clear on every call.
Performance that lasts all day

This is where the Next Gen AI PC promise comes to life. The OmniBook X Flip 14 is powered by the new AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 series processor, which includes a NPU rated for up to 50 TOPS (trillion operations per second). It wakes up the second you open the lid, and there’s a new-found snappiness to everything, from opening apps to juggling 20 browser tabs. This smooth performance comes from a new processor with its own ‘AI brain’ (NPU), which is designed to do two things.
First, it runs all the new AI software, freeing up the main processor for other tasks. You can use Windows Studio Effects to blur your background on a call, or Cocreator to turn a quick-drawn sketch into a polished image, all without any noticeable slowdown.
Its second job is all about efficiency. This dedicated AI chip sips battery, allowing you to realistically get through 10-12 hours of mixed use – work, browsing, and streaming – without thinking about your charger. When you do run low, HP Fast Charge is a lifesaver, giving you about 50% battery in just 30 minutes. Of course, that meter will drop faster with heavy creative apps, but for a typical day, it’s the all-day battery life you’ve been hoping for.
All the right ports
The OmniBook X Flip gets the practical details right. For starters, the 5MP webcam delivers a sharp, bright, and professional image, ending the era of grainy call quality on Teams or Zoom. Paired with the IR camera, it offers instant, password-free logins via Windows Hello, while a physical privacy shutter provides extra peace of mind when the camera is off.
As for the port selection, it has everything you actually need – two modern USB-C ports (one being Thunderbolt), a full-sized HDMI for connecting to a hotel TV or meeting room monitor, and even two ‘old-school’ USB-A ports for your mouse dongle or a thumb drive. You will no longer be digging through your bag for an adapter just to connect to a projector or charge your phone.
HP even includes an active stylus in the box. It’s responsive, feels great for jotting down notes, and recharges via a hidden USB-C port. Best of all, it snaps magnetically to the side of the chassis – a small touch that ensures you’ll never leave it behind.
The Verdict

So, is the OmniBook X Flip 14 the one device to rule them all? It comes incredibly close. If your day is a mix of video calls, web browsing, creative brainstorming, and streaming, this laptop is built for you. The good battery life, gorgeous screen, and thoughtful extras like the pen and generous ports make it a joy to use.
In short, this laptop delivers on its promise – it’s a smart and flexible machine that adapts to your day by removing the little frictions of a modern life.
