In case you missed it, here are some key takeaways from the daily segments.
The second chapter of our #FirstClasseLive programme, where we invite personalities from different backgrounds for a live takeover of our Instagram account, has wrapped up last week. This time, we welcomed guests to teach us a few new skills, from cultivating our own sourdough starter to picking up some French dining and wining terms.
In case you missed it, here are some key takeaways from the daily segments.
On Monday, Lim Heng Kit, co-founder and chef of Provisions Café taught us how to jump on the sourdough bandwagon. All you need to do to grow your own sourdough starter is combine flour and water in a container. Stir it well and leave it at room temperature (with a closed lid) for several hours to a day until you notice bubbling, indicating yeast activity. After that, you can store it in the fridge and continue to “feed” the culture with flour and water daily, skimming off the top layer first each time.
Once you’ve successfully created your starter (usually after a week from when you started), feel free to try the Sourdough Crepe recipe below!
Josephine Ong, founder of Pulpy Garden, took over on Tuesday to offer some tips and ideas for budding homeplanters. According to her, the sansevieria family is among the easiest plants to look after – making this perfect for new plant owners or those with brown thumbs. An example would be the snake plant, which can grow indoors and only requires watering once a week.
For the perfect mid-week break, Eiling Lim, Malaysia’s first independent whisky bottler, showed us some of her favourite cigars and spirits in her collection. Based on her experience of smoking cigars for 10 years, she suggests pairing them with chocolates, champagne and/or brown spirits to experiment with different flavour profiles. Despite the hobby being traditionally associated to men, she also pointed out that women have a keener sense of smell and taste than men (studies support this) and thus, encourages women to try it out.
Joining us as a mystery guest on Thursday to learn some French wining and dining terms with Pierre Boyer was actress and barrister-in-law, Koe Yeet. Besides picking up new words like aperitif, digestif and sante, she was also treated to a live demonstration of the term sabrage – a technique of champagne sabering that is popular in France.
Before buka puasa on Friday, content creator Naddy Rahman walked us through her evening skincare routine. Aside from practising a double cleanse on days when she wears makeup, Naddy also swears by keeping skincare products (except face oil) in the fridge. This not only helps to produce a nice, cooling effect during application, but helps to combat inflammation from the heat and humidity too.
