It’s a fact that people have gone above and beyond in making sure their homes are as clean and spotless as possible as the Covid-19 virus continues to rage on in the country. We’re also suddenly doubting the cleanliness of our spaces – even after a supposed deep clean.
In the name of creating a healthier and truly spotless home that leaves no dust particle behind – Dyson has unveiled the brand-new Dyson V12 Detect Slim, a new generation of cord-free vacuum cleaners that are, quite literally, lighting the way for innovative cleaning appliances.
Developed by a team of 370 engineers globally, these new vacuums use a Dyson Hyperdymium motor which generates up to 150 air watts of powerful suction and 5-stage filtration which captures 99.99% of dust particles down to 0.3 microns for a powerful deep clean. However, the real star of the show is its new laser dust detection feature, that illuminates invisible dust particles to ensure that you’re vacuuming up every single last one of them.
Keep on reading to find out more about this new innovation:
Illuminating the way with Laser Dust Detection
To ensure a deep and thorough clean, the V12 Detect Slim is equipped with Laser Dust Detection to reveal particles that you can’t normally see, using a precisely angled laser integrated into the cleaner head.
The idea first came about when a Dyson engineer noticed that airborne particles in their home glistened in the sun, kickstarting research into how to take this notion and apply it to the fine dust that appear invisible to the naked eye when at home.
The answer came in the form of a green laser diode – specially chosen for its ability to provide the best contrast – integrated into the Slim Fluffy cleaner head. It’s positioned precisely at a 1.5° angle, 7.3mm off the ground, providing the best condition to illuminate the floor and those unseen dust particles.
Getting calculative
The V12 Detect Slim also comes with a Piezo Sensor, developed to enable the user to measure the dust it detects. The data is then displayed on an LCD screen for real time scientific proof of a deep clean – so even the most particular clean-freaks can rest assured that the vacuum job was done.
How does it work? An acoustic Piezo Sensor gets integrated into the vacuum, to start. Carbon fibre filaments in the cleaner head pick up microscopic particles which are sized and counted up to 15,000 times a second. The dust enters the vacuum, hitting the acoustic Piezo Sensor within the bin inlet with the tiny vibrations being converted into electrical signals. The dust size and quantity are shown on the built-in LCD screen – displaying how much dust the vacuum has removed, as well as the different sizes of particles.
When the vacuum comes across large amounts of dust, it also automatically increases suction power during auto mode. When dust levels normalise, suction power is reduced to its previous level.
A deep and detailed clean
In addition to showing you the power mode and the vacuum’s battery life, the LCD screen fitted to the vacuum also provides a graphical chart of what particles the Piezo Sensor can detect. Here’s a breakdown of how to tell them apart:
Yellow: Particles that are >10μm – invisible, microscopic dust particles such as pollen and allergens.
Orange: Particles that are >60μm – fine dust, skin flakes, human and pet hair.
Pink: Particles that are >180μm – dust mites, fine sand.
Purple: Particles that are >500μm – visible debris, sugar, fleas, dirt, small food droppings and crumbs.
Leaving a hairy situation behind
One annoying issue long-haired women and pets have is having to deal with long strands of hair strewn all over the floor from daily shedding. Another problem is fussing with the hair strands getting tangled on the brush bar of conventional vacuums. Dyson Engineers have thankfully developed a new anti-tangle conical brush bar which spirals hair off and into the bin – preventing the wrapping of hair around the brush bar.
The anti-tangle tool is also designed for both human and pet hair – with the Engineers having delicately tweaked the precise angle of the bristles to ensure the release force does not tangle the hair, no matter the hair type.
The new Dyson V12 Detect Slim is now available at your nearest Dyson Demo store, as well as online.
