Dine with class and drink with finesse at Sky51, the new talk of the town.
After its highly anticipated opening in March this year, the swanky EQ Kuala Lumpur has more exciting updates for those constantly hungry for new destinations to visit in KL.
Cue Sky51, the new rooftop dining destination located on the highest floor of the hotel, where it inherits its name. Making their debut with the launch of Sky51 are Blue and Sabayon, a bespoke rooftop bar and lounge and a contemporary European restaurant respectively.
Both establishments have been reimagined and refreshed from the former Equatorial Hotel’s Chalet and Blue Moon, attracting loyal guests of the hotel to rediscover the modern concepts that subtly pay tribute to their predecessors in their own ways.
In-house guests are granted exclusive access with the hotel key card after 5pm daily via the elevators facing the concierge; whilst non-hotel guests can access the area via a private elevator with direct access to the floor.
Upon arrival, here are five things to explore at the new talk of the town.
Feed the gram
Once the elevator doors part, you’ll be transported into an otherworldly setting of mirrored obsidian black floors and ceilings embedded with lights that illusively stretch out like constellations. There’s only one sensible thing to do at this sight: whip out your smartphones and snap away for the gram. But don’t get too distracted, there are more breath-taking spectacles where that came from (more on this later).
Dine with class
While feeding your social media followers with fancy views, do also feed your appetite for good food at Sabayon. Featuring high ceilings and elegant décor highlighted by bronze and copper accents, the contemporary European restaurant offers a warm yet modern ambience topped with views of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. The main dining area comfortably accommodates up to 52 guests, whilst a separate private dining room seats up to 34.
Helming the kitchen is Chef Hans Boren, who has over 20 years of experience working in the one-Michelin starred Restaurant 28+ in Gothenburg, Sweden. Expect to enjoy premium imported ingredients as well as artisanal Malaysian produce translated into meticulously prepared dishes.
Wine aficionados will not be disappointed with 100 pointer bottles like the 2016 Le Dôme and 2008 Penfolds Grange on the list. For the complete Sabayon experience, guests can also look forward to exclusive wine pairing dinners with ambassadors of respected estates, which will be held from time to time.
Drink with finesse
After dinner, find your way through a small chamber (disguised as an elevator) into the indoor lounge that makes up half of Blue. Revamped from its predecessor, Blue Moon, the new and highest rooftop speakeasy bar in KL features plush lounge chairs and bar seats to sit back in and let the live band serenade you with tunes to set the mood.
Alternatively, head out to the alfresco area for a more laid-back experience under the stars. Take your pick of poison from a comprehensive range of gin, vodka, rum, bourbon, whiskey, cognac and spirits or speak to one of the experienced mixologists for bespoke cocktails crafted according to your preferred flavour profiles.
Party to beats
The upper deck of the bar is where the DJ is at, dropping the coolest beats so you can dance and party away into the night. Reservations are essential to secure a spot in the exclusive space which can accommodate up to 130 guests, in addition to the private pods that can take up to 34.
Bask in views
Remember those breath-taking views we were talking about before? Well, you definitely won’t miss them while you’re here as almost every corner of Sky51 boasts unparalleled vistas of KL’s skyline. Both the iconic KL Tower and Petronas Twin Towers can be seen in all their glory, altogether making this a must-stop rooftop dining destination in the city.
