The event kicked off with an enlightening sake masterclass, led by the esteemed Atsuhide Hoshiyama – a director at the Japan Sommelier Association and a leading figure in the world of sake. Attendees had the opportunity to explore a curated selection of IWC 2024 Trophy-winning sakes, gaining deep insights into the nuances of each variety through Hoshiyama’s expertise.
Following the masterclass, the grand ballroom at Wynn Macau transformed into a haven for sake aficionados during the Walkaround Tasting session. Representatives from nine prestigious breweries, including the producers of the IWC Champion Sake 2024, Miyakobijin Yaiyou, showcased their award-winning brews. Guests were treated to a tasting experience, savouring Japan’s finest sakes while engaging with the makers behind these exquisite drinks.
The first evening also featured a Champion Sake Dinner at Mizumi, the resort’s Forbes five-starred restaurant. Executive chef Hironori Maeda, who celebrated for his innovative approach to contemporary Japanese cuisine, crafted a menu that highlighted the harmonious marriage between the culinary creations and the award-winning sakes.
The event’s grand finale, the IWC Trophy Champion Sake Gala Dinner, then took place on August 3. This opulent evening brought together culinary maestros executive chef Chan Tak Kwong of Wing Lei and chef Hironori Maeda. The duo presented a unique fusion of Chinese and Japanese flavours, paired with the top nine Trophy Sakes of 2024. Guests dined in a mesmerising atmosphere, enhanced by Wynn’s signature entertainment and the luxurious ambiance of the grand ballroom.
