Malaysian artist Cheong Kiet Cheng, is noted for her use of a variety of materials over the years. From oil to acrylic to ink to watercolor, Kiet Cheng has experimented with numerous techniques to convey her creative vision, however, for her fifth show, she places a strong emphasis on the spiritual journeys she has undergone over the years.
Titled ‘The Last Star Before Dawn‘ the exhibition will feature nine paintings highly influenced by riddles and dreams. The exhibition urges viewers to ponder on the transitory nature of life and the thought that all things in life will eventually have to come to an end. According to Cheng, she receives a sense of tranquility in her paintings by a unique way of trekking, meditation, and connecting with the spirits of nature in repeating shapes. She would rather convey her joyful spirit via her art than succumb to traditional aesthetics.
As she puts it, “There are always unseen hands that give me strength and guidance as I share my inner mysteries and elements […] I hope that visitors will find a sense of peace and inspiration in my paintings and leave with a renewed appreciation for the beauty of the world around us.”
The exhibition will be held at Wei-Ling Gallery from 6th of June to 8th of July 2023. Admission hours are Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 6pm, and Saturday 10am to 5pm.
