This week, Meta announced it will begin rolling out the Meta Avatars Store, a virtual marketplace where users will be able to buy digital outfits from Balenciaga, Prada and Thom Browne for their avatars.
Launching on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger in the coming weeks, the store is said to offer more ways for users to better represent themselves and their interests through a wider selection of digital clothing by leading fashion brands. According to Meta, the outfits will be available to purchase alongside existing free clothing and accessory options.
The announcement comes after the company expanded its 3D Meta Avatars beyond VR earlier this year, introducing the feature to Facebook, Messenger, Instagram Stories and Instagram DMs.

Meta CEO and Founder Mark Zuckerberg shared the news on a Facebook post, stating: “Digital goods will be an important way to express yourself in the metaverse and a big driver of the creative economy. I’m excited to add more brands and bring this to VR soon too.”
Zuckerberg joined Eva Chen, VP of Fashion Partnerships on IG Live to discuss the new launch, show off their own avatars decked out in the fresh digital fits, and consider the possibilities that lay ahead for avatars and the metaverse.
Meta also shared that it plans to continually bring in new offerings based on the latest fashion trends and extend its range to include outfits from fashion, sports and lifestyle brands, allowing users to evolve in their style in the metaverse, just as they do in the physical world.
