The 2021 Oscars has wrapped up the awards season with many historic firsts, making the two-month wait for the 93rd Academy Awards worthwhile.
Aired live from Los Angeles’s Union Station and its usual venue, the Dolby Theatre, the ceremony kicked off with a moving speech from Oscar winner Regina King. Pandemic notwithstanding, the show saw a diverse cast of presenters including Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Bong Joon Ho, Don Cheadle, Bryan Cranston, Laura Dern, Harrison Ford, Marlee Matlin, Rita Moreno, Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Renée Zellweger and Zendaya.
Nine actors of colour earned Academy Award nominations — marking a new Oscar record for diversity in those categories. To add, there were more women nominations in 2021 than previous years.
And the 2021 Academy Award winners are…
