This best-of auction is hosted by EPPLI, and will be held in Stuttgart, Germany.
A study by the Boston Consulting Group states that the market for luxury fashion items is growing by about 6% per annum. Record prices are regularly achieved at auctions and in second-hand shops. According to the German industry newspaper Textilwirtschaft (2018), one out of five women already owns a luxury handbag.
This 14th March, EPPLI will be hosting a best-of auction at Königsbau in Stuttgart. Highly sought-after collectibles such as the Hermès Kelly and Birkin bags will be up for grabs, with the spotlight on a particularly rare SEKRÈ handbag. Each SÈKRE bag is 100% handmade in 142 and crafted from pure cowhide leather, with the logoplate fashioned from solid, hand-polished sterling silver – it’s without a shadow of a doubt that strong bidders will be expected at this special event.
Founded in 1978, German auction house EPPLI was one of the first to specialise in the trend for upmarket segment of fashion and accessories.
The company made international headlines in 2018 when they auctioned off one of the world’s largest collection of the most desired Hermès luxury bags. The French marque achieved hammer prices of up to €36, 000 for an extremely limited it-bag, the “KELLY BAG 35 TEDDY,” coll. 2001.
Since then, the family business has systemically expanded this division. It now employs 80 people, of which 12 of them search the international markets for selected items specifically for the luxury sector.
The current market leader for luxury handbags in the international auction market is New York auction house Christie’s. For the next few years, EPPLI aims to catch up with Christie’s in this rapidly growing segment – though it does not fall that far behind.
