If you find that your lipstick has been left out in the heat for a while and it has melted slightly, you can simply stick them in the fridge for 10 to 15 minutes and it should firm right up. This tip is also useful if it appears that your lipstick bullet is cracking or is about to break. Keeping it in the fridge will solidify it and it should be good as new once you take them out.

It’s important to know when to cut your losses and throw away a lipstick that’s passed its expiration date. As a general rule, lipsticks can last up to 12 months once they have been opened. After a year, it’s best to throw them out, or if they begin to smell strange or you see a separation in its formula, it’s time to bin them.
