The Golden Globes, with its 27 categories, honours and awards outstanding achievement across film and television every year. The ceremony took place on Sunday evening in California (early Monday morning for us here in Malaysia) and saw a star-studded attendance, as well as an impressive presenters list. The show was hosted by Nikki Glaser, who made history as the first female solo host of the Golden Globes ceremony. She was also on the list of nominees for the Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television.
This year, the big winner that emerged in television is Shōgun, the Japanese-language FX/Hulu historical drama series. Fresh from their record-breaking sweep at last year’s Emmys, the show swept four wins more win earlier today, most notably for Best Television Series – Drama.
Foreign language productions did well overall in the Golden Globes, as over in the film side of things, the Spanish-language French film Emilia Pérez made a mark too with four awards, taking home the Best Motion Picture award in the Musical or Comedy and Non-English Language category, Best Original Song, as well a prize for Zoe Saldaña for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.
The Brutalist took home three wins, landing the Best Motion Picture – Drama awards as well as Best Director and Best Performance by a Male Actor to Adrian Brody. The year’s most anticipated film event, Wicked, also got a nod in the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award, despite losing out in all other nominations.
