Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW), one of the region’s premier fashion events, is back for its 12th edition and is once again set to be a dazzling showcase of innovation and creativity, bringing together an eclectic mix of over 50 established designers and emerging talents to flaunt their ready-to-wear collections. Ahead, we break down everything you need to know about the city’s biggest fashion extravaganza.
Where will KLFW take place?
This edition of KLFW will be set against the picturesque Petronas Twin Towers, turning Suria KLCC’s Esplanade in KLCC Park into a purpose-built fashion hub from 29th July to 4th August 2024. The 12,000 sq ft dedicated show space will house the main show hall, runways, multiple activation spaces, and can accommodate up to 500 guests per show. While the show space is only meant for invited guests, the impressive monochrome structure will include a large LED screen panel to livestream the KLFW 2024 runway, marking the first time KLFW is opening up its shows to the members of the public.
What can attendees expect this year?
Those attending can look forward to contemporary designs that push the boundaries of fashion, bold deconstructed pieces that challenge conventional norms, streetwear with a more sophisticated approach, and hybrid designs that fuse comfort with high fashion. Ready-to-wear labels Akudesign, Corak, Ghostboy, Larney, SHALS, and Tact, as well as a veteran in bespoke creations, Fuzana Mokhtaza, will be making their debuts at KLFW 2024 alongside local fashion powerhouses such has Rizman Ruzaini, Fiziwoo, Nurita Harith, and Alia Bastamam.
What other highlights can we look forward to?
This year, KLFW will also be spotlighting the craft and artistry of traditional batik in a new show titled Fashion Forward Batik Malaysia in collaboration with Kelantan-based batik brand Ruzzgahara. Another highlight is the Design To Sustain segment, powered by the all-new PEUGEOT 408, which will feature 15 finalists of the KLFW Designer Search 2024 and their creations. These designers will be mentored by Uzair Shoid, a winner of the KL10 Designer Search 2022 who presented a full collection in the same segment in 2023, and will return with his eponymous label at KLFW 2024.
Will there be any other events happening post-KLFW?
Post-KLFW 2024, there will be two more events, Fashion Connect.24 and the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Awards (KLFA), as part of efforts to continuously cultivate and celebrate the homegrown fashion industry. Fashion Connect is a full-day networking and educational event aimed at strengthening the fashion industry supply chain through a sustainable and forward-thinking ecosystem, featuring notable fashion designers as panelists such as Kit Woo, Nurita Harith, and Rizman Nordin. KLFA, on the other hand, will honour the nation’s celebrated designers and industry figures in a star-studded ceremony to pay tribute to the resilience and innovation displayed by both Malaysian designers and style makers.
