The Cartier Tank Francaise, first launched in 1996, was designed as a departure from the traditional Tank established in 1917. It quickly rose to fame with its unique square dial, elongated case edges and integrated metal band, giving it an overall elegant look. More than 25 years later, Cartier relishes the Tank Francaise with a redesigned bracelet and a campaign film featuring Catherine Deneuve and Rami Malek.

The redesigned Cartier Tank Francaise highlights subtle differences, with sides that are more rounded to frame the dial and satin finishes on the case and bracelet. Its crown is also positioned deeper into the case than it was in earlier iterations, while some editions feature smaller links with a polished finish. 

Each timepiece comes in 18-karat gold and stainless steel versions with roman numerals on its dial sprawled in a sunray-like outline. Some variations even include diamonds that line each side of the dial. Quartz movements power the smaller versions and larger models house an automatic mechanical movement.

Film with Catherine Deneuve and Rami Malek

Directed by Guy Ritchie, Cartier commemorates the launch of the new timepiece with a film starring French actress Catherine Deneuve and American actor Rami Malek. The film takes place in Paris, particularly at the Pont Alexandre III bridge, and follows Malek as he admired beauty in many iterations. It ends with Malek meeting Deneuve, who’s sat in a car, as she glances at her Cartier Tank Francaise.
