Last year, long hairstyles dominated the trends with cuts like 90s layer, high ponytails and more. But according to Pinterest’s predictions and hairstylist interviews with Glamour UK, the new year will see people embracing shorter styles. Waist-length hair looks will not be as widespread while bobs and cuts above the shoulders will be extensively worn in 2023. Here are some hair trends that you’ll be seeing more often throughout the year.
Box Bob
A box bob is a blunt cut at chin length and is intentionally choppy to give out a voluminous illusion. It’s an ideal haircut for those with fine hair as it provides texture and fullness, and is easy to style and maintain. Those with naturally wavy or curly hair can simply air dry their hair while people with straight hair are suggested to apply mousse to the ends, scrunching it up for volume.
Curtain Bangs
Curtain bangs were a huge trend in 2022 and is set to continue trending throughout the new year. Unlike fringes, curtain bangs start mid-way at the bridge of the nose and flow down towards the sides. However, curtain bangs require daily styling, especially for people with straight hair or it may look flat. But it can also be tucked behind the ears on days you don’t feel like styling it. If you want an easy way to style them, curl them with a straightener or apply heatless hair curlers overnight.
Lots of Layers
Layers have been the base of many top hairstyles last year, from butterfly and wolf cuts to shags and mullets. Hence, the layering trend is bound to continue this year, ranging from minimal and subtle to fuller choppy layers for that grunge look. Though having lots of layers are highly recommended for wavy hair as it’ll take less effort to style, straight hair can also opt for this look. Just bare in mind that daily curling might be needed if you want volume.
Chopped Bob
Made famous by Wednesday star Jenna Ortega, the chopped bob looks like a shorter version of a wolf cut, with a thick fringe and layers that end just above the shoulders. To achieve fullness, it’s recommended to apply mousse and scrunch up the hair from the top to the ends. Pair this hairstyle with a casual oversized outfit or a grungy look just like Jenna. You can also opt to tame the chopped bob down by simply hair drying it to add subtle volume for work days.
Different Cuts
DIY hair cuts have been on the rise lately, and the new trend for hairstyles is expected to feature a wide range of different cuts. According to Percy & Reed founder Paul Percival in an interview with Glamour UK, he mentions people will be combining hairstyles together in their own take on trendy styles like mullets and wolf cuts. Use a rotating hair brush attachment on your hairdryer for soft waves that can be worn everyday.
