This luxurious collaboration with Champagne Thiénot also commemorates Penfolds’ 175th anniversary.
In celebration of its 175th anniversary, Australian wine company Penfolds partnered up with Taissy-based Champagne house, Thiénot to release three limited-edition wines from the 2012 vintage: a Chardonnay Pinot Noir Cuvée alongside two single vineyard wines – a Blanc de Blancs from Avize Grand Cru, and a Blanc de Noirs from Aÿ Grand Cru.
The alliance was inspired by a re-ignited love for France – which holds a special memory for Penfolds, where winemaker Max Schubert was inspired to create Grange. Maison Thiénot has also been the French importer for Penfolds wines for the past 5 years.
“Whilst the singularly expressive and acutely defined siblings, 2012 Blanc de Noirs and 2012 Blanc de Blancs, play their roles in this trio’s inaugural release, this cuvée synergistically creates its own stage, commanding its own space. What is so obvious from the first sip and sniff – time will be kind to this wine. A revelational journey awaits,” said Peter Gago, the Chief Winemaker at Penfolds. Gago is a self-confessed “Champagne addict” who spent some formative years dabbling in creating the beloved bubbly in Australia before joining Penfold’s Magill Estate.
