Rolex GMT Master II Oystersteel
Rolex brought their A game at Baselworld this year, offering several new timepieces that each deserve a spot on this list. The most talked about, however, is the new GMT Master II Oystersteel. Featuring a red and blue “Pepsi” bidirectional ceramic bezel and new five-link Jubilee bracelet, the latest Oystersteel is designed to display two time-zones at once - either the local time and a reference time, or the local time and another desired time zone. It houses the new Calibre 3285, boasting 10 patent applications to offer better precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetism, convenience and reliability. W rolex.com
Omega Speedmaster “Dark Side of the Moon” Apollo 8
While the new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M is getting a lot of hype, we’re drawn to the out-of-this-world (read: dark side of the moon) appeal of the Speedmaster. Its skeleton face boasts the famous Moonwatch calibre 1861, which is laser-ablated to produce realistic imagery of the lunar surface. The transparent caseback cleverly references Jim Lovell’s final words spoken to ground control just before Apollo 8 travelled to the far side of the moon, reading “we’ll see you on the other side.” The geek in us is sold. The Defy range may very well be the Zenith’s flagship, and this year’s Defy Zero G is easily the top of its kind.
