The latest chronographs boast sharper aesthetics and better versatility than the original.
In 2016, Girard-Perregaux reintroduced Laureato watches to its range of timepieces, followed by a ceramic model last year. At SIHH earlier this January, the Swiss watchmaker unveiled a few new additions to the Laureato family: the Laureato Chronograph collection.
It’s only natural that the Laureato collection has garnered more attention in recent years then, with the latest chronographs boasting sharper aesthetics and better versatility than the original, born in 1975.
Here’s closer look at its distinctive features.
Sporty versatility
Designed for comfortable daily wear, the Laureato Chronograph comes in a 38mm or 42mm case in steel enriched with chromium or 18k pink gold. The 38mm version is a neat, compact option to fit ergonomically on smaller wrists; whereas its bigger brother offers more space on the dial while still maintaining a snug look and feel.
Integrated with the case is a polished octagonal bezel, meaning no lugs or loops – a defining feature of the Laureato code. Further highlighting its unique identity is the dial bearing the “Clou de Paris” hobnail motif, a set of small raised pyramids that catch the light. There are three dial colours offered, including silver, deep blue and black.
All three dial options come with hour and minute hands in a snailed finish, creating a luminescent effect for a visual contrast against the dial. However, the 38mm versions feature hour-markers separate from the minute circle and a solid caseback, while the 48mm counterparts feature hour-markers secured to the minute circle and a caseback fitted with a transparent sapphire crystal. This allows each to meet different demands and achieve a universal appeal at the same time.
Self-winding movement
Also distinguishing the Laureato Chronograph collection is the manufacture’s self-winding movement GP03300-0134/0136/0137, beating at 4 Hz with a minimum power reserve of 46 hours. This drives the watch’s two counters and small seconds as well as the date display.
On top of guaranteeing accurate timekeeping, its horological qualities are complemented by exemplary finishing including “Côtes de Genève” (also known as the Geneva Stripes), chamfering and straight graining.
It is water-resistant to 100 metres and available in two strap options: steel bracelet or integrated leather strap.
