The jewels worn by Hollywood stars – whether diamonds, rubies or emeralds – are always beautiful (and expensive!). From adding a luxurious twist to the actors’ outfits to being used as a crucial plot device, jewellery has had a long-standing relationship with the silver screen. They are so special that the plot often revolves around these legendary gems like the Heart of the Ocean, the blue diamond worn by Kate Winslet in Titanic, or the Cartier Toussaint necklace that Sandra Bullock and her gang of thieves stole in Ocean’s 8.

Heart of the Ocean necklace in Titanic
Designed by jewellers Asprey & Garrard, the Heart of the Ocean in the 1997 classic film Titanic is a fictional jewel that was meant to be owned by Louis XVI. At the end of the film, the necklace is tossed into the ocean by Rose (Kate Winslet). The 56-carat blue heart-shaped diamond was inspired by one-of-a-kind blue ‘Hope Diamond’, a stunning 45.52-carat gem that is the largest blue diamond in the world.
Tiffany & Co. yellow diamond in Death on the Nile
The famed Tiffany & Co. yellow diamond necklace, given to Linnet (Gal Gadot) by Simon (Armie Hammer) as a wedding gift, is the star of the 2022 film Death on the Nile. The jewel features a 128.54-carat, cushion-shaped brilliant yellow diamond suspended from 100 carats of white diamonds set in a geometric pattern. It’s worth noting that the necklace in the film is a fanciful recreation of the priceless piece.
Toussaint Cartier necklace in Ocean’s 8
Inspired by a design crafted in 1931 for the Maharaja of Nawanagar, the Toussaint Cartier necklace is at the centre of the plot in Ocean’s 8, in which Daphne (Anne Hathaway) wears it to the Met Gala, where it will be stolen from her by Debbie (Sandra Bullock) and her crew. The original piece was described as “the finest cascade of coloured diamonds in the world” and featured blue-white diamonds crowned with a colossal 136.25-carat ‘Queen of Holland’ diamond. To appear in the film, Cartier made a fake replica necklace out of zirconium oxides and white gold.
Savoy headpiece in The Great Gatsby
The glamorous Savoy headpiece, which Daisy (Carey Mulligan) wore along with her handpiece when she goes to Gatsby’s party in the 2013 film The Great Gatsby is a 1920s inspired Tiffany & Co. creation for the film. The flat bandeau style tiara with a detachable brooch and a silk ribbon holding it is made of a total of 25.04 carat brilliant diamonds and is priced at $220,000.
Satine necklace in Moulin Rouge
When Satine (Nicole Kidman) first appears on screen in the film Moulin Rouge, she sings of how “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.” The Duke (Richard Roxburgh) takes note and later presents her with the Satine diamond necklace. Created by Sydney jeweller Stefano Canturi, the original necklace that’s made with 1,308 diamonds and weighs a total of 134 carats, is worth $3 million – making it the most valuable piece of film jewellery to date.
