Let’s face it: When it comes to eyewear, no one does it better than Gentle Monster. Right after their “Gentle Jelly” drop, the South Korean eyewear brand came up with a newer collection and this time around, they teamed up with none other than the French luxury label Maison Margiela. Following the success of last year’s iconic collaboration, the two brands are back for yet another timeless and stylistic offering crafted under the visionary direction of John Galliano.
Captured by photographer Jordan Hemingway, the campaign transports viewers into a hyper-realistic, dream-like setting inspired by the Maison Margiela’s Co-Ed Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Exploring concepts of futurism with craftsmanship, they study the evolving notions of how we dress and why.
The latest collection features new sculptural temple-less designs and leather-wrapped frames, consisting of 17 designs that reflect the avant-garde chic of the two brands, complete with Margiela’s signature four white stitches. Captivating and sleek, these acetate frames also come in signature colourways such as black, white, grey, cream, transparent, and tortoiseshell as well as leather-framed editions in black, ivory, khaki and blue nuances. Standout pieces like the MM101 and MM102 boast a futuristic yet organic design, embracing the contours of the face with metallic allure.
As experimental as ever, the launch is brought to life via five activation spaces worldwide, where viewers get to experience the futuristic setting alongside avant-garde, monstrous installations in Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, New York and Tokyo.
The collection is launching on March 7 in stores and online.
