Often featured in the Portugieser line by IWC is a style with a stark contrast between the dial and the subdials. This is commonly known as a “panda dial” among watch aficionados, as the difference between the two hues makes for a striking visual effect while enhancing readability. This summer, the Swiss luxury watchmaker is giving its two iconic Portugieser models a cool blue and white revamp!
On the white dial, you’ll find a polished lacquer finish while an “azurage” coating paints the deep blue dial. It’s also no surprise that these hues exude nautical vibes, as the Portugieser was initially inspired by marine deck observation watches. Here’s a look at the new fresh and contemporary pieces that are perfect for dapper gents.
Portugieser Automatic
The Portugieser Automatic features a 42.3-millimetre stainless steel case, a white dial with blue accents, and blued feuille hands. You’ll find that the power reserve display is located at 3 o’clock, while the tiny seconds are located at 9 o’clock on the balanced dial arrangement. But the heart of this timepiece is the 52010 calibre, produced by IWC themselves.
Furthermore, the timepiece features an automatic Pellaton winding system that has been strengthened with elements made of wear-free ceramic. It utilises even the smallest rotational movements in both directions to build up a 7-day power reserve in two barrels. Design-wise, the watch sports a sapphire case back and blue alligator leather strap, which has a folding clasp.
Portugieser Chronograph
The stainless steel 41-millimetre Portugieser Chronograph has a white and blue dial alongside blued feuille hands. If you’re on the lookout for a slightly smaller fit to add to your collection, this is the one for you. Inside the case is the IWC 69355 calibre, which features automatic winding and a 46-hour power reserve.
The back of the timepiece sees a sapphire glass case which provides you with a clear view of the chronograph movement in a traditional column-wheel layout. Additionally, the blue rubber strap of this classy sports watch is strong and flexible, offering exceptional wearing comfort.
You can get your hands on the Portugieser Automatic and Portugieser Chronograph at IWC boutiques, authorised retail partners, and online at IWC.com. Both models are eligible for enrollment in the My IWC Care programme, which provides an additional 6-year International Limited Warranty on top of the regular 2-year warranty.
