Girard-Perregaux’s collaboration with Aston Martin has yielded a new limited edition timepiece, the first-ever design expressly inspired by the racing team, complete with a pair of cutting-edge materials advances. Called the Laureato Absolute Chronograph AMF1 Edition, the new Girard-Perregaux timepiece is distinguished by the use of two novel carbon composite materials made from carbon fibre salvaged from the team’s 2021 race cars, and the combination of cutting-edge materials enhances the limited-aesthetic edition’s appeal while also providing functional benefits. Girard-Perregaux has stated that just 306 examples of the watch will be produced, with prices starting at $27,800.
The avant-garde 4mm case of the Laureato Absolute Chronograph AMF1 Edition is comprised of a mix of titanium powder, coloured resin, and recovered carbon fibre. The cutting-edge material, which is manufactured utilising a high-tech manufacturing technique, is incredibly strong, lightweight, and ductile compared to steel. The etched strips on the black PVD titanium pushers are complemented with Aston Martin’s characteristic lime green and British racing green colours. It’s also the first Laureato Absolute Chronograph model to include a clear sapphire caseback with Aston Martin branding and a printed team logo.
The main dial surface of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chronograph Aston Martin F1 Edition bears the race team’s rich metallic British racing green hue, which is portrayed here with a sunburst finish and an etched diamond pattern crosshatch texture. The dial features Aston Martin’s distinctive lime green accent colour, with both the chronograph minutes hand and the centre chronograph seconds hand providing an energising focus to the arrangement. With a counterweight fashioned to imitate the brand’s famed oval fender vents, the chronograph seconds hand also lends the dial its final Aston Martin connection.
Girard-Perregaux uses Rubber Aloy, another one-of-a-kind material, for the strap of the Laureato Absolute Chronograph Aston Martin F1 Edition. The Rubber Alloy is made out of FKM rubber and additional carbon from the Aston Martin Formula One racing chassis for 2021. According to the producer, this hybrid material requires a complex scientific manufacturing process, yet the resulting Rubber Alloy is both soft and incredibly durable.
The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chronograph Aston Martin F1 Edition is a limited edition timepiece, with just 306 pieces created. The Aston Martin F1 Edition Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Chronograph costs $27,800. For more information, visit girard-perregaux.com.
