Their new vocabulary is one that advances aesthetic canons liberated from pre-built models and gender paradigms.
There has been much buzz surrounding the collab between Ermenegildo Zegna and Fear of God since it was announced earlier this year. First presented in March, the collection born of a spontaneous dialogue between the two leading men of the tailored menswear brand and luxury streetwear label respectively, Alessandro Sartori and Jerry Lorenzo, has finally arrived.
Designed to pave a new path of masculine elegance for menswear that’s also wearable for women, their unique partnership proves that two seemingly distant world can come together to create a contemporary wardrobe. This new vocabulary is one that advances aesthetic canons liberated from pre-built models and gender paradigms.
“The collection speaks to our audience just as it does Jerry Lorenzo’s, but we believe it can also appeal to a new client, thanks to the mix of Zegna’s impeccable tailoring and Fear of God’s concept of laid-back luxury. We have worked with great balance, without our ego’s ever surpassing one another, to create a unique new wardrobe. A perfect synthesis of our two souls: clothes to wear at any time of the day in order to feel good,” Sartori reveals.
“This collaboration is based on mutual respect,” Lorenzo elaborates. “When you meet someone for the first time, you immediately understand how far you can go. With Alessandro we understood each other from the very first moment, and this collection naturally evolved from our conversation. I design menswear but I always keep a woman in mind; I really love the way women wear men’s clothing.”
Combining Zegna’s sartorial expertise with Fear of God’s contemporary leisurewear, the collection presents mixed proportions, reinvented silhouettes and blended references from Milan, Los Angeles and back. The collection’s colour palette is distinctively neutral with hues of mélange grey, vicuna and taupe.
There are lightweight suits that lose revers and feature unusual pocket placements, one-size-fits-all coats made from fine natural fabrics, as well as a suede shirt-jacket and leather bomber – both of which are embossed with the Zegna logo in Fear of God’s signature font. Denim pieces embody the same casual attitude as the accessories, which include western ankle boots and woven belts that tie at the front.
