It looks like ‘’re-discovering the originality of fashion from the past’’ was the centre theme for Coach this season. For their Spring/Summer 2023 collection, Creative Director Stuart Vevers brought his Coach collection inside the Park Avenue Armory, to pay homage to ‘Americana culture’ with modern improvements.
“With Spring, I wanted to evolve notions of luxury that place an emphasis on perfection. Inspired by the next generation’s fluid approach to fashion’’, said Stuart Vevers, Creative Director at Coach. ‘’The collection celebrates pieces that become more beautiful the more they are worn and loved, and references to the past rediscovered in the present.’’
Classical pieces such as love-worn leather jackets, frilly skirts with Peter Pan collars, letterman emblems, and tough knitwear added a retro air to the collection. Some models donned Mary-Jane shoes with stockings and jelly sandals, harkening back to a vintage period. Distressed denim, leather, and patchwork leather jackets were designed in sophisticated oversized designs that reflected the antique tones of the collection.
Above all, the new Coach Tabby bag design was the winner on the accessories side. The American fashion house has long had success with its carryalls—from minimalist purses in the 1970s to branded shoulder types in the early 2000s—but the last few years have indeed been particularly lucrative for the brand, owing in no little part to the viral fame of its Tabby silhouette.
Vevers also confirmed during Coach’s Spring/Summer 2023 show that multi-platinum rapper Lil Nas X will be joining the house as an ambassador with his first runway walk. “It was such a fun experience being part of the Coach show and walking on my first runway ever,” said Lil Nas X.
“I’m super excited to make my debut as the face of Coach, a fashion house that believes in a lot of the same things as me. I can’t wait to share all of the other amazing things I’ve been working on with Stuart and his team very soon.” This is the first ambassador announcement for the house’s new Expressive Luxury chapter, which focuses on identifying Coach’s position in the next generation.
