It’s official: Louis Vuitton has officially recruited BTS into its army (or was it the other way round?).
Announced last Friday, this marks the first major designer house partnership for the entire South Korean K-pop boyband. Considering the rise in Asian ambassadors at all the top luxury brands of late, it was only a matter of time before one got a hold of the Grammy-nominated group and their 130 million-strong “BTS army”.
Besides their top-notch performances and chart-topping hits, the Bangtan Sonyeondan or “Beyond the Scene” boys – namely RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook – have captured countless hearts for their sartorial style that spans streetwear and luxury labels.
They were recently spotted in black and brown looks from the brand’s Fall-Winter 2021 collection at the Grammy Awards red carpet in Korea, where they were nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. (Perhaps that was a hint?) Now that the world’s biggest pop group and world’s leading fashion house have teamed up, all eyes will be on their next step towards world domination.
“I am delighted BTS are joining Louis Vuitton today,” Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Artistic Director, Virgil Abloh commented on the appointment. “I am looking forward to this wonderful partnership which adds a modern chapter to the House, merging luxury and contemporary culture. I can’t wait to share all the very exciting projects we are working on.”
“Becoming global brand ambassadors for Louis Vuitton is a truly exciting moment for us. We are excited for our upcoming projects with Virgil Abloh,” BTS echoed.
