‘Twas a dark, rainy evening when Bentley unveiled the Bentayga Umbra at its showroom in Kuala Lumpur – an apt introduction for a limited-edition model dubbed the ‘Dark Knight’. The luxury SUV’s arrival comes after the success of welcoming the only Continental GT Le Mans Collection Edition in Malaysia earlier this year.
Tall, dark, and handsome befitting its nickname, the Umbra is an exquisite expression of the Bentayga S built by Mulliner, Bentley’s bespoke coachbuilding arm. With only six units in Asia Pacific, it’s a powerful car with dramatic styling that’s made to stand out in any environment. Powered by a V8 engine and enhanced Sport mode, this ultra-exclusive masterpiece promises a driving experience that matches its commanding presence.
Brooding beast
The Umbra’s Hallmark exterior is both bold and brooding, featuring the world’s first Beluga-painted front bumper with a fade design. This innovation is complemented by the Tri-Tone Styling Specification, which introduces Cyber Yellow pinstripes along the carbon-fiber bodykit and rear wing, creating a sharp contrast against the car’s dark silhouette.
Cyber Yellow accents also appear on the wing mirrors to accentuate its geometric shape, as well as against the black 22-inch S wheels, which feature a self-levelling wheel badge by Mulliner. This striking hue is one of seven accents buyers can choose from to add a pop of colour to the car’s dark tones, the rest of which include Vivid Red, Mandarin, Kingfisher (bright blue), Key Lime (yellowish-green), Vivid Purple, and Cherry Blossom (Sakura pink).
Dramatic details
Inside the metal beast, the drama continues. Its moody aesthetic is echoed by pairing Porpoise main hide with Beluga secondary hide. Meanwhile, the digital fade perforation pattern on the quilted areas and headrests – another first for Bentley – reflects the fade design seen on the front bumper.
Once again, Cyber Yellow accents make a statement throughout the cabin, from the seat emblems and overmat micropiping to the painted veneered carriers. High Gloss Carbon Fibre Veneer adorns all surfaces, reflecting the vehicle’s elegant power. Even the Bang & Olufsen speaker grilles, finished in satin black and silver, highlight Bentley’s attention to the smallest details.
Made by Mulliner
As mentioned, Bentley’s bespoke craftsmanship division is responsible for the finishes of the Umbra. With a heritage rooted in the golden age of coachbuilding, Mulliner represents the pinnacle of Bentley customisation. From unique finishes to brand new coachbuilt vehicles, the Mulliner name embodies the pinnacle of Bentley luxury – transforming visions into reality.
Owners can customise every aspect of their vehicle to their personal taste from a selection of materials, colours, and features. Alternatively, there’s the option to collaborate with Mulliner’s designers to create bespoke elements.
The Bentayga Umbra stands as a testament to this tradition as an ultra-exclusive limited series designed by the Mulliner team of designers, engineers, and artisans. It joins the ranks of other exclusive Mulliner creations like the Bentley Batur, Bacalar, and Speed Six Continuation Series.
Priced at RM 3,677,500, the Bentayga Umbra is now available for viewing at the Bentley Kuala Lumpur Showroom. Steeped in luxury and craftsmanship, this ultra-rare edition is destined to become a collector’s dream.
