Moving forward: Balenciaga‘s reentry to the fashion world felt seamless. On March 5, the house returned to the spotlight at Paris Fashion Week, showcasing their Winter 2023 collection for the first time since the disastrous 2022 fiasco.
Ever since its reappearance to the game, the brand has been playing it safe and toning it down while exhibiting metamorphosis including parting ways with Kanye West, addressing the ‘Supreme Court case ruling’ and the latest 2023 RTW Winter Collection—where they promised a fresh and new chapter that was exquisitely presented.
The clothes were stunning, with carefully crafted detailing which seemed authentic. Nothing screams for attention though, even with sky-high shoulders, fishnet stockings, footwear, stunning draping, and familiar bodysuits.
In Balenciaga’s show notes, Demna, the house’s Creative Director, took readers on a journey through his lifelong love affair with fashion, ‘’I was 6 years old when my parents let me have a pair of pants made for me by a neighbour tailor. I designed them; chose a fabric and went to the tailor for fittings.’’ But the note also highlights an interesting part when he admitted to wanting to “seek shelter,” referring to the brand’s months-long hiatus.
Overall, it was a successful lineup of attire that reflects Winter’s detachment, reserve, and somber mood. Here are some of the best looks from Balenciaga’s ‘bounce-back’ collection.
