In honour of the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary, Audemars Piguet has commissioned Italian jewellery designer Carolina Bucci to create a new limited edition 34 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding in black ceramic. Carolina Bucci employs her signature techniques to create a dial with a unique multi-coloured mirror effect that pays homage to the iconic Tapisserie design.
This is Carolina Bucci’s third Royal Oak collaboration; she previously collaborated with Audemars Piguet in 2016 for the 40th anniversary of the women’s Royal Oak. Initially, two models were available: the 15454 in 37 mm and the 67652 in 33 mm in white or pink gold. She then went on to design the K.I.S.S. collection of gold bracelets in 2020, which were inspired by her previous projects with the Manufacture.
“I wanted to place a rainbow in the most unexpected of places, a little like when you see oil floating on a puddle in a city street… So here you have every colour of the spectrum on a canvas that is completely black, which is itself the absence of colour,” says Carolina Bucci, Jewellery Designer.
The hexagonal pink gold screws that attach the bezel and create an exquisite contrast of colours stand out against the black ceramic case and band. The case and bracelet components are all finished with the Manufacture’s characteristic satin-finishing, which is combined with polished chamfers for maximum light play.
The “Limited Edition Carolina Bucci” inscription is engraved on the titanium and sapphire caseback, which shows the Calibre 5800 beneath, which displays the hours, minutes, seconds, and date. The 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight has beautiful microbead-blasted, polished, and satin finishes to match the screws, hour-markers, and hands.
Due to the uniqueness of the dial conceived by Carolina Bucci, the AP monogram has vanished from the dial, leaving the long-form signature to take centre stage, which has been carved on top of the sapphire plate and filled with white lacquer.
This limited edition is offered exclusively in Audemars Piguet shops and AP Houses and is designed for both men and women.
