Five new Royal Oak Offshore references are presented by Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet in 37 and 43 mm sizes and in a variety of materials: two models are made of titanium, two are made of gem-set 18-carat white gold, and one is made of black ceramic. The dials on the Tapisserie have the same design as equalisers (also known as VU metres) used in recording studios. Hours, minutes, and seconds hands are driven by selfwinding movements in these references, the new Calibre 5909 for 37 mm models, and the Calibre 4309 for 43 mm variations.
The creative connections that the Manufacture has been fostering with the music industry for many years are celebrated in these new models with their unique designs.
Two understated and robust titanium diameters
The first two titanium Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Music Edition models come in 37 mm and 43 mm diameters to fit a range of wrist sizes. Both have a blue dial as a backdrop for the printed coloured VU metre, producing a shimmering contrast. The AP monogram in polished white gold at 12 o’clock and the 18-carat white gold hour-markers and hands with luminous coatings for the best visibility, especially in the darkness of performance halls, complete the dial.
The 37 mm model adopts the larger bevels and curved crystal of the most recent 43 mm iterations, as well as the design cues of the Royal Oak Offshore chronographs of the same diameter. The coloured equaliser motif has lots of room because there isn’t a date window. The watch comes with a removable, blue rubber strap with a “mosaic effect” pattern that matches the colour of the dial. This is the first time the interchangeable strap mechanism, initially launched by the Manufacture in 2021 on the Royal Oak Offshore collection, has been featured on a 37 mm watch. Three additional rubber straps for the model are included; they are blue, yellow, and green and have a “mosaic effect” design.
The models introduced in 2021 are continued in the 43 mm variant. Three additional turquoise, yellow, and green rubber straps are included in the presentation box in addition to the interchangeable blue rubber strap that matches the dial that comes with it. These two references each have a titanium and sapphire caseback that is etched with the words “Limited Edition of 500 Pieces” and provides a special look at the selfwinding movements that drive them.
Harmonious gemsetting
Additionally, there are two white gold 37 mm and 43 mm models in the new Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Music Edition line, with coloured “Harmony”-cut stones set in the dial and bezel. Like the titanium models, both versions have a blue aventurine dial that shows a musical VU metre. Various gems, including rubies, peridots, tsavorites, green, blue, and orange sapphires, are placed using the invisible setting process to create the ten colours that make up the equalizer’s columns. Both references’ bezels are embellished with gemstones of a similar colour (rubies, tsavorites, yellow, orange, green, and blue sapphires), harmoniously matching the dial’s hues.
The 43 mm version sparkles with 230 stones totalling 6.15 carats, while the 37 mm reference is studded with 166 stones totalling about 3.7 carats. Similar to the titanium models, these two references include 18-carat white gold hour markers and hands, as well as the polished AP monogram at the 12 o’clock position. They also have three additional rubber straps in turquoise, yellow, and green. They are finished off by a blue interchangeable strap that has a “mosaic effect” design for the 37 mm reference.
Two new selfwinding calibres in the Royal Oak Offshore collection
These Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Music Edition watches are powered by two selfwinding hours, minutes, and seconds movements that do not display the date in order to highlight the dial’s colour scheme.
The new Calibre 5909 is installed in the two 37 mm references. A selfwinding hours, minutes, and seconds movement has never been integrated within this diameter before. The Calibre 5909 is based on the Calibre 5900, which made its debut in 2022 at Audemars Piguet on references for the 37 mm Royal Oak watches. This movement, which replaces Calibre 3120, has the advantages of being slimmer (3.9 mm instead of 4.26 mm) and providing a greater frequency than its forerunner (3 Hz). A 60-hour power reserve is also included.
The most recent selfwinding hours, minutes, and seconds movement of this diameter created by the Manufacture, Calibre 4309, is what powers the 43 mm versions. While its power reserve of at least 70 hours while the watch is not being worn and its spacious size provide optimal timekeeping precision, these features are ideal.
