My journey from Kuala Lumpur to Penang was quite exhausting due to an early morning flight, but upon my arrival at Penang Airport and being welcomed by the Marriott staff, my mood quickly shifted to excitement. The 30-minute drive from the airport to Marriott’s newest property was a delightful experience, as I was captivated by the vibrancy of Penangites and their activities along the way.
As we turned onto Gurney Drive, the breathtaking view of the seafront and the warm breeze instantly welcomed me. There stands the majestic 55-story tower of Penang Marriott, showcasing the hospitality group’s commitment to architectural excellence, offering a unique blend of timeless style, charm, and rich cultural heritage that defines Penang. Its proximity to George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, added to the allure of the location. Moreover, within a mere 10-minute car ride from the hotel, you will have convenient access to Penang’s renowned shopping destinations, including Gurney Plaza, Gurney Paragon, and 1st Avenue.
Upon entering, the modern and elegant-looking lobby creates inviting spaces, welcoming you the minute you step inside. The hotel boasts 223 exquisite rooms with the option of a Seaview or City View, each showcasing the epitome of minimalist luxury along Penang’s iconic promenade. I had the Guest Room with Seaview.
The luxurious king-sized bed serves as the centrepiece of this spacious room, designed to accommodate two adults and a toddler. The room is equipped with cutting-edge technology, such as a smart TV and a phone charging table that eliminates the need for cords or chargers. Positioned strategically in front of the expansive window, a plush sofa allows me to fully appreciate the vibrant colours of sunrise and the tranquil hues of sunset.
Penang Marriott Hotel effortlessly combines modern sophistication and comfort throughout each level and facility. With contemporary design, luxurious amenities, and a commitment to creating a refined and inviting ambiance, the hotel caters to discerning guests. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the fully-equipped 24-hour fitness centre, steam room, and outdoor infinity pool for staying active. I personally love the swimming area, which offers a picturesque Gurney seafront view, making it the perfect place to relax and admire the beauty of the surroundings. I made sure to take a few moments each morning to meditate by the pool.
For culinary indulgence, a fusion of Asian meets Western cuisine takes centre stage at Marriott Penang. Personally, I highly recommend Kucina for its passionately crafted Italian dishes that truly stand out. As for breakfast, I’ve enjoyed my mornings at Sago, which offers a wide range of flavours from both local and international cuisines, such as the popular Char Kuey Teow and Malaysia’s all-time-favourite Nasi Lemak.
In the evening, when I craved a cup of coffee and a light snack for teatime, my go-to place was Lava Java. Located just across the lobby, this mini bakery offers a delightful selection of sandwiches, desserts, coffee, tea, and refreshing sodas. Although I don’t drink, those looking to relax and unwind can visit the Great Room Bar and Lounge. This stylish open space bar is known for its expertly crafted cocktails and mocktails, perfect for winding down the night.
But if you wish to hold business meetings or enjoy a cosy tea time with your loved ones, La Siena is the perfect multi-function space. Here, you can enjoy a variety of food and beverage options, from delightful afternoon teas to unique dining experiences. Plus, at La Siena, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Gurney seafront!
Overall, whether for work or pleasure, Marriott’s new property provides carefully selected options that guarantee a perfect mix of luxury, comfort, and rejuvenation, offering a stay with sincere hospitality, delicious food, and health facilities that result in unforgettable experiences.
