Announced in 2013, the Palazzo Versace project in Macau is finally seeing the light of day. This is Versace’s third luxury resort – the first in Asia – following its Dubai location, which opened in 2016, and its Australia lodgings, which opened in 2000. Situated within the vast complex of Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, the 271-key hotel features a unique east-meets-west concept that honours the rich cultures of both Italy and Macau.
The luxury hotel is evocative of an Italian Palazzo, and Versace’s Milanese heritage and signature flair are immediately evident. Boasting a flamboyant style, with opulent mosaic and marble decorations, the hotel is inspired by the neoclassical architecture of Italian palaces, using the House’s signature motifs such as the Medusa head, the Greca print and the Barocco pattern. All combined with Chinese symbols such as the golden dragon and the chrysanthemum flower. The rooms are furnished with linens and lamps from the Versace Home line. Outside the rooms, there’s a wellness centre, an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool, a personal training room and two restaurants.
The grand unveiling of the hotel on the night of March 23 celebrates the House’s luxury lifestyle and the culture, entertainment and cuisine of Macau. The opening saw a stellar guestlist, including Versace’s global brand ambassador Rosy Zhao, model Chrissy Teigen, and Taiwanese actor Austin Lin. Korean actress Shin Hye-sun and Thai actor Blue Pongtiwat Tangwanchareon were also spotted among the star-studded crowd. The cherry on top, however, was a surprise performance by singer-songwriter John Legend. And of course, the house’s Chief Creative Officer, Donatella Versace herself, was present.
“I am delighted to celebrate the opening of this truly beautiful Palazzo Versace here in Macau with an amazing performance by the incredible John Legend. It is wonderful to bring together so many friends for such a special event to mark the opening,” Donatella Versace says of the hotel’s grand opening. “I know that Palazzo Versace will continue this warm welcome for every guest who comes to visit for many years to come.”
