Known for its reliability, comfortability and superior craftsmanship, Lexus’ coveted luxury sedan ES 250 is back with a facelift and several updates for 2021, along with a new F Sport variant. Joining the line-up, the F-Sport model flaunts a distinct new style and impeccable finishing for motorists who appreciate a unique aesthetic while on the road.
While the new Lexus ES 250 line sees design changes to the spindle grille such as fewer vertical bars and L-shaped patterns, the F Sport distinguishes itself stylistically with a mesh pattern made of interlocking L elements and a dark metallic finish. The black finish mesh is also found in the cutouts of the model’s front fascia, with wider openings than the other versions.
Another exterior redesign can be seen on the models’ headlights, as the F Sport and ES 250 Luxury models now have a Daytime Running Light design while the ES 250 Premium showcases a new inner bezel design. Additionally, the F Sport is fitted with a set of 19-inch alloy wheels with a Dark Premium Metallic finish, while the ES 250 Premium’s wheels come in a new Dark Grey Metallic Finish.
The ins and outs
Two new exterior colours, the Heat Blue Contrast Layering or White Nova Glass Flake, are exclusive to the F Sport. For the ES 250 Premium and Luxury, customers have a range of eight shades to choose from, including the new Sonic Iridium and Sonic Chrome.
The Lexus ES generation’s spacious interiors are also given more colour options, most notably the aluminium finish on the trim and the striking red or black upholstery that is only available with the F Sport. However, the new ES 250 Premium and Luxury also offer new choices like black with walnut brown trim with hazel upholstery.
Drivers of the F Sport will enjoy a leather covered 3-spoke steering wheel, dimpled leather-trimmed shift knob and stylish aluminium pedals. To emphasise its sporty character, the dashboard features a light-emitting analogue clock on the dashboard with distinct L-shaped graphics, and a movable metal ring on the meter.
The multimedia displays on the new Lexus ES models have also been tweaked for better operability, with the touchscreen moved 112 mm closer to the occupants and five degrees towards the driver. Owners with devices using the USB Type-C connector will be happy to learn the ports on the models have been upgraded to Type-C. A brand new feature to the Lexus models is the Nanoe-X negative ion generator which is built to improve cabin air quality.
Safe and (with less) sound
Powered by a 2.5-litre DOHC A25A-FKS petrol engine, the Lexus ES 250 models can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds. The vehicle’s 4-cylinder 16-valve engine produces 204 hp at 6,600 rpm and 247 Nm at 5,000 rpm, and includes features like multi-hole direct injectors, a continuously variable-capacity oil pump, a variable cooling system, and VVT-iE on the intake valves.
Comfort and safety remain a priority for Lexus in the new ES 250 designs, with an added brace to increase rigidity of the rear suspension. For the F Sport, performance dampers are installed to absorb frame compressions, reducing interior cabin noise.
In addition to the standard Lexus Safety System+, the latest update improves the millimetre-wave radar and a monocular camera sensor to better detect daytime bicyclists and camera sensitivity and range to identify pedestrians in low-light situations.
The Adaptive High-beam System has been upgraded with BladeScan technology, which controls light distribution and broadens the range of high beam illumination without dazzling oncoming cars. Other safety features include the Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Parking Support Brake which help mitigate damage from minor collisions with vehicles approaching from the rear or the sides.
Pricing for the new F Sport variant starts at RM 345,134.00. The Lexus ES 250 Premium is priced at RM 295,663.50 while the new Lexus ES 250 Luxury is priced at RM 329,910.50.
