Since ancient times, humans have been endlessly intrigued and mystified by the celestial bodies that embellish the evening sky above.
No less susceptible to the allure of the night sky were the watchmakers and artisans behind Jaeger-LeCoultre’s newest addition to their Rendez-Vous collection, the Dazzling Moon Lazura. A tribute to the illuminations of the night, this latest piece lives up to its name by evoking the evening’s most enchanting attributes, from the deep blue sky to the moon and the stars beyond.
Mirroring the night sky
Taking inspiration from the rich hues in the hours of twilight, the watch’s eye-catching blue dial of lapis lazuli serves as a constellation speckled backdrop, on which the gleaming mother-of-pearl moon phase features prominently. Centrally placed and lit against the brilliant blue, the moon reveals itself at each of its current corresponding phases in the lunar cycle using a crescent shaped aperture.
Three rows of twinkling diamonds encircle the upper and lower dials, further highlighting the bedazzled blues, the glowing moon and the gilt floral numerals which seem to disappear into the horizon. The Rendez-Vous indicator, represented by a constantly moving star, provides the option of setting a gentle chime reminder for future appointments and engagements.
Utilising two different gem-setting techniques, the manufacturer’s master jewellers display skill and ability to seamlessly tie together each element of the piece. The romantic, warm tones of the pink-gold bezel elegantly round out the brightness of the blues and the sparkle of the gems. The effect results in a timepiece that drips dreamy opulent charm, balanced with dignified poise.
Minute masterpieces
Aside from being visually stunning, the moon phase within the crescent shaped aperture is a beloved complication from the Rendez-Vous collection, in part due to its technical precision, which only requires adjustment every 972 years.
This lunar-themed horological feature owes its exceptional performance to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 935, an automatic mechanical movement specially innovated for the timeless pieces lining the Rendez-Vous collection. Comprising 365 parts, and boasting a 40-hour power reserve, the Caliber 935 leaves an impression with its high-level functions in concert with the watch’s brilliantly cohesive visual elements.
With its technical excellence, the Dazzling Moon Lazura embodies the night itself not only through its starry sky adornments but in its unwavering accuracy, just as the moon and constellations have guided humans in keeping record of time for millennia.
A legacy of sophistication
Introduced in 2012, the Rendez-Vous collection exists as a celebration of femininity. Putting women at the centre of their design focus, the collection’s offerings have been characterised by elegant materials and an understated, classic style. With the goal of crafting watches for the modern woman, complications such as the moon phase and a reminder chime were made available to fit the sensibilities of the female wearer. The collection’s signature components of delicately small calibers and the setting of diamonds set these timepieces apart by gracefully accentuating the female wrist.
This marrying of watchmaking innovation and artistic craftsmanship, however, is not new to the 188-year-old Swiss luxury brand. Jaeger-LeCoultre has long been known for effortlessly melding mechanical mastery with an appreciative eye for aesthetic quality. Created in 1931, the iconic Reverso combined a novel swivel feature which showcased two alternating dials, while incorporating the sleek, geometric Art Deco style of the era. With over a thousand calibers and hundreds of registered patents, the watchmaker has steadily built a reputation based on a spirit of invention which continually pushes the boundaries of technical advancement while maintaining a refined polish in each piece.
