This latest lineup promises larger battery capacity and new purpose-built functionality so you can do what you love longer – be it mountain biking, surfing or climbing and more.
We love our gadgets and wearables as much as the next modern 21st century person. But we’ll admit, the one thing that has proven to be a hassle is charging these devices, especially when travelling.
Enter Garmin’s new Instinct Solar and Fenix 6 series, which harnesses solar power technology to offer unprecedented battery life in any adventure smartwatch. Joining the brand’s Solar Series, which includes the Fenix 6X Pro Solar launched last year, this latest lineup promises larger battery capacity and new purpose-built functionality so you can do what you love longer – be it mountain biking, surfing or climbing and more.
Instinct Solar series
Building on the reputation of the Instinct GPS series to endure the most challenging environments, the Instinct Solar offers bold new designs, prolonged battery life and updated activity profiles.
With Expedition Mode and sufficient sunlight exposure, the Instinct Solar watches boast improved GPS functionality with over two months of battery life. Even on Smartwatch Mode, it can last up to 24 days indoors and up to 50 days with sunlight. By comparison, most other smartwatches (we’re looking at you, Apple and Samsung) can barely last a week on the same mode.
If that’s not impressive enough, the Battery Saver Mode minimises unused features to ultimately provide unlimited battery life. Users can easily switch between these modes or make battery-extending changes via the Power Manager function on these models.
What’s more, the Instinct Solar – Tactical Edition models come with tactical-specific features such as night-vision goggle compatibility and Stealth mode. All versions now also launch with the Pulse Ox2 sensor to track how well a user’s body absorbs oxygen, as well as Body Battery
to help optimize body energy reserves through health monitoring metrics, on top of existing outdoor acitivity profiles and health trackers.
The Instinct Solar comes in an array of colours including Graphite, Tidal Blue and Sunburst, while the Instinct Solar – Tactical Edition is available in Black, Moss and Graphite Camo.
Fēnix 6 series
On the other hand, the latest editions to the flagship Garmin Fenix series – namely the 6S Pro Solar and fēnix 6 Pro Solar – arrive with three new activity profiles to cater to more adventures: surfing, mountain biking and indoor climbing. Other smartwatch abilites remain largely the same, including training features, onboard mapping and music streaming – except with more battery capacity to keep up with your active lifestyle.
To be specific, the smaller 6S Pro Solar lasts up to 9 days indoors and up to 10.5 days with sufficient solar exposure on smartwatch mode; whereas the 6 Pro Solar tops that at 14 days indoors and 16 with help from the Mr. Sun.
The Garmin Instinct Solar and fēnix 6 Series are available now at Lazada, Shopee, Garmin stores and authorised retailers. Suggested retail prices start at RM1,999 for the Instinct Solar and RM4,199 for fēnix 6S and 6 – Solar Editions.
