We’re not sure what we love more – that pyramid, that plexiglass runway or all that retro 70’s vibe in royal purple.
Kicking off Milan fashion week with a big bang was Gucci with a set transformed into a magical purple wonderland where curtains unveiled a mirrored pyramid topped with a rooster weather vane. A runway made entirely of plexiglass framed that gargantuan centrepiece, with stage lights of the same royal hue lighting it up, which then cascaded to the classic Gucci green, yellow and back.
For Alessandro Michele’s first unified collection, he chose to load 120 models in a retro 70’s vibe laced with Renaissance hints. After all, he is a man of the history. Bringing something new to the runway may come easy from Gucci’s main man ever since they reigned him back in 2015, but for his Autumn/ Winter collection it was artful insouciance to the highest of levels, literally.
It was a celebration of art beginning with the invitation itself – it came in the form of a vinyl recording featuring Florence Welch’s version of Songs of Innocence and Experience by William Blake and A$AP Rocky reading Persuasion by Jane Austen (who would have tought a day of such should arrive so soon?). The sleeves of the vinyl read “What are we going to do with all this future?” by Coco Capitan.
From the show, our eyes were glued to form that married sparkling bodysuits with ripped denims. Other silhouettes include rich embellishments, a myriad of prints against brightly coloured threads and micro details.
