Normally, when setting out on a new fitness goal, a personal trainer would craft a training programme based on the targets you aim to achieve. At Anabolica Gym, this process takes on a unique starting point with a detailed personality test. 

“This is basically the selling point for us,” says Azmil Saleh, owner and founder of Anabolica Gym in Bukit Damansara. “There is a study that shows a correlation between your personality and your muscle fibre makeup, so if we know that, we can then program the training based on your personality to maximise your physical potential for quicker and more effective results.” 

The results speak for themselves. In turn, the neurotype assessments and tailored solutions have helped Azmil tap into the benefits of getting to know each person who trains here, creating a close-knit community of people who train together.

Coming from a corporate background, Azmil started his career as a chartered accountant before setting out to pursue his passion for personal training. He opened his first gym, PRSVR/DTRMND in Arcoris Mont Kiara before expanding to Anabolica Gym to bring together the different training communities of bodybuilders, cross fitters, powerlifters and Olympic weightlifters. “The idea was to basically combine all of them under one roof to cross between each other so that there is no fraternity,” he says. 

Despite its rather compact space, Anabolica Gym offers a comprehensive selection of state-of-the-art equipment for all these different groups. “Because of the way we are curated from the equipment to the layout of the gym, everyone tends to become friends with one another, so there are no cliques,” he says before adding that layout allows newbies to also experiment with the various workout styles to see what works for them. 

But that’s not all that sets them apart. The first thing you will notice when you walk into the gym is how everything is organised and tidy. “I am a neat freak so, I get bothered when I see things in a mess,” he laughs. “We wouldn’t want to charge a certain amount of money and not back it up with a certain amount of value.” 

There is no denying that Azmil puts in plenty of detailed effort to ensure the gym is a comfortable space for his high-profile clients. “We pride ourselves in being private and discreet. We are here due to the word of mouth of our clients. People can train here and just be themselves.”
