After unveiling a collection of biodegradable boots during its Fall/Winter 2020 show, Bottega Veneta has revealed its next step towards a more sustainable future. Turning its attention to bags – another category the brand seems to be excelling in since Daniel Lee took over creative reins – the Maison is debuting a bag collection made from 100% recycled paper.
Christened the Kraft Paper collection, the Pre-Fall 2020 creations feature some of the brand’s best-selling silhouettes of the moment, such as the BV Twist and The Pouch in mini, clutch and shoulder versions.
According to the press release, the bags are designed to be “soft, light and breathable”. If we may add, “innovative” will likely be the selling point here.
Each bag is created using FSC-certified corrugated cardboard paper that has been treated with an aliphatic polyurethane film and microfiber fabric to ensure protection, durability and waterproof capabilities. The material also features a crumpled effect that adds a raw, natural-looking aesthetic.
All the bags in the collection are lined with calf leather and further supported by a magnetic frame to maintain sturdiness, with the exception of the BV Twist that has a softer structure. It comes with a zip opening at the bottom of the bag as well as an interior zipped pocket.
Yes, the use of calf leather means they’re not fully eco-friendly, which the brand doesn’t claim them to be; but at least the use of recycled material reduces waste that would otherwise end up in landfills or take years to biodegrade.
The Kraft Paper collection is now available at Bottega Veneta stores and online.
