For US$2,000 you can now see the Great Barrier Reef without getting wet.

Want to get up close to the Great Barrier Reef? Just call for a scUber!

Uber is taking its ride-sharing services to the depths of the ocean now with its newly launched ‘scUber’. The service is recognised to be the world’s first ride-share submarine experience.

David Wachenfeld, chief scientist at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and one of the first people to ride the scUber off Heron Island, described the ride as ‘a cross between Finding Nemo and a Bond movie’.

The service is available on the Uber app from May 27 through June 18. So, do hit it up for a trip to the giant coral reef.

For a fee of US$2,000 (approximately RM8,405), Uber will dispatch drivers to pick up you for a helicopter ride to docking locations at either Heron Island or Port Douglas. You get a one-hour tour of the Great Barrier Reef in a ‘scUber’ submarine vessel and then will return to your pick-up location.

The underwater experience will only be available to a ‘limited number of riders.’ If you can afford the hefty price, don’t forget to tip the driver as well!

Uber will also be partnering with Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef and work together in efforts to preserve coral reefs around the world through the use of technology and data-based solutions.
