The new collection specially made for children features Christian Dior’s favourite lucky charms – the rose, the lily of the valley and the star.
Our taste in jewellery, just like our taste in clothes, are formed very early on in life and often, our first exposures to it are from our mother’s jewellery boxes of wardrobes.
Children these days need not even have to borrow from mummy anymore with Dior’s latest jewellery collection.
The luxury house has introduced a new collection specially made for little fashionistas, featuring Christian Dior’s favourite lucky charms – the rose, the lily of the valley and the star.
These three symbols each held a special place in the designer’s life, who was quite the superstitious person.
Long known to be Monsieur Dior’s favourite flower, roses surrounded his childhood while growing up, thanks to a precious garden planted by his mother at their home in France. As an adult, he kept that part of his boyhood with him by continually using them in many elements of his couture designs. (swipe left for more)
The lily of the valley
Monsieur Dior regarded the lily of the valley as his lucky flower. Its unique scent makes up the heart of the majority of his perfumes and in fashion, he never failed to slip in a dried sprig of the delicate flower in each of his finished couture pieces. Rumour has it, he wore the bloom in his jacket pocket everywhere he went, too.
When he was 41, Monsieur Dior was offered a chance to take over the creative director post at a fashion house called Philippe et Gaston. Torn between that offer or starting his own line, he decided to take a walk and that was when he chanced upon a glimmering object – picking it up, it turned out to be a star ornament. Regarding it as a sign, a guiding star, it propelled him to start his own brand and that was how the House of Dior was born.
