TAG Heuer has levelled up its Connected Wear OS Watch, and it’s gone and done it with none other than the most famous plumber in the world – Super Mario, marking probably one of the most epic collaborations so far. Now you can go forth and unlock your fitness potential, while being the proud geek gamer that you are.

According to the brand, Mario’s “upbeat and active personality will encourage wearers of this smartwatch to enjoy moving too.” However, TAG Heuer didn’t mean that by simply slapping his face on the watch. Instead, wearers will be able to persevere through their active lifestyle alongside Mario, who will be constantly on the move – be it running, jumping, golfing, or even playing tennis. In short, the more active you are, the livelier, more animated and fun the dial becomes.

The animations are also based on the Super Mario games’ gamification rewards system. Each morning, Mario greets with a salute before you start your day. Then as the day progresses, you get to unlock rewards when you hit each stage of your daily step count target at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. Each stage unlocks a different reward in the form of an animation – such as the Super Mushroom that makes Mario grow bigger and stronger, him getting a speed boost via a Pipe, or Mario getting a Super Star that makes him invincible. And once you hit your target, Mario makes his way up the Goal Pole – marking another nod to the video game.

The limited edition TAG Heuer Connected x Super Mario is given a colour scheme that also pays tribute to the game. The interactive watch face comes pre-installed on the watch, but TAG Heuer is also planning to make it available on other editions of its Connected watches.

When the wearer isn’t active, the watch’s interface still features the playfulness of the character; the Timekeeping dial using retro elements from the 1985 version of Super Mario Bros. with the plumber in all his pixelated glory. Other designs feature a fun take on the iconic red and blue colours and a classic version with a subtle rendition of Super Mario’s signature red cap. The Orbital watch face also sees its neural network replaced by Super Mario’s iconic elements that rotate in an eye-catching movement.

The bezel graduation, push buttons, and crown logo on the limited watch are also given exclusive yet subtle Super Mario references. The bezel itself also features three iconic symbols at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock – another tribute to the Super Mario power-ups.

Housed inside a steel case, the fun-looking watch comes with two interchangeable straps that feature the signature Super Mario red – one a black leather on red rubber version, and another in matching red perforated rubber. The strap buckles and the crown are engraved with Mario’s “M” symbol, and the screw-down case back is emblazoned with the inscription: “TAG Heuer x Super Mario Limited Edition”.
