Longines, the traditional Swiss brand, brings back the dive watch it first debuted in 1968 with the Ultra-Chron Diver. Longines has long been a leader in high-frequency technology, having launched the first high-frequency diver watch, the Ultracron Diver, in 1968.
The new Longines Ultra-Chron has a screwed-in caseback and crown, as well as a unidirectional rotating bezel. It also has excellent legibility and is waterproof to a depth of 300 metres. The 43mm cushion-shaped steel case of the Longines Ultra-Chron is paired with a diving bezel that features a sapphire insert with luminous accents. A white minute track alternates with Super-LumiNova-coated batons and rhodium-plated appliques on the striking black grained dial.
The original Ultra-Chron logo is also etched on the caseback and visible on the dial. The red minute hand, like the hour hand, is coated with Super-LumiNova for maximum legibility on the new Longines Ultra-Chron. The calibre L836.6, a high frequency “in house” movement, lies at the core of the new Longines Ultra-Chron. It is said to oscillate at 36,000 beats per hour (10 beats every second).
TIMELAB, an independent testing laboratory in Geneva, has certified the Longines Ultra-Chron as a “ultra chronometer,” confirming its accuracy. The “ultra-chronometer” qualifying process tests the watch head and subjects the end product to a 15-day testing period during which it is subjected to a series of tests at three temperatures, 8 °C, 23 °C, and 38 °C, to ensure that it fulfils the strict precision parameters.
The Longines Ultra-Chron is available with a leather or steel bracelet, and it comes with a black NATO strap made from recyclable material.
