Mercedes-Benz once again establishes itself as a leader in automotive luxury with the Malaysian launch of two exclusive new flagship models, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, and Mercedes-Maybach GLS.
Having recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Maybach, the marque continues to charge full speed ahead, attaining new heights in style, comfort and outstanding craftsmanship. With the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class comes the latest in digital innovations and technical finesse, while the GLS SUV combines a superior robust technical basis with the luxury of a top-class sedan.
Here’s what you can expect from the new Mercedes-Maybach sedan and SUV.
The new Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC
An expression of ultimate luxury, the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class unites the highest level of aesthetic beauty and pioneering technology, enhanced with a number of exclusive features that are especially suited towards chauffeured driving.
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is powered by an eight-cylinder petrol engine (M176) with integrated second-generation starter-alternator (ISG) and 48-volt onboard electrical system. With the DYNAMIC SELECT driving mode, the driver can individually modify the powertrain, ESP®, suspension and steering to fit every road, occasion or preference.
On the gleaming chrome surround of the front grille, the name ‘Maybach’ is proudly displayed, while the Maybach brand logo prominently features on the C-Pillar. The exterior can be further customised by a two-tone paint finish with a dividing line that is expertly applied by hand.
With wider rear doors, a fixed quarterlight in the C-pillar, and an 18-centimetre longer wheelbase compared to the long variant of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, the model is built to provide maximum spaciousness. Electrically-operated rear doors are fitted as standard, allowing the comfort doors to be closed or stopped with hand and arm gestures using the MBUX Interior Assistant in the rear.
Inside, the new Mercedes-Maybach raises the bar for comfort in every aspect, from active road noise compensation that delivers a hushed interior, to the adaptive rear lighting that offers a wide adjustment range between working light and relaxing lounge light.
Now featuring the second generation of MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience), the new Maybach affords drivers easy access and control of vehicle and comfort functions. Up to five display screens are available, including a 12.8-inch OLED central display that functions as a high-tech control centre.
Safety features in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class include new assistance systems for critical driving situations, as well as the PRE-SAFE® positioning function which moves rear seats to a more favourable position right before a collision. With the Rear Seat Comfort Package, multicontour seats provide extra protection by fixing occupants in a better seating position and reducing possible whiplash.
With the new S-Class generation, the DIGITAL LIGHT headlight technology is now in full series production, allowing new functions such as highlighting individual areas and projecting of guidelines or warning symbols onto the road ahead.
The new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC
A formidable new entry in the luxury SUV segment, the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS is powered by the V8 engine, which can deliver 410 kW (557 hp) and 730 Nm of torque when combined with the 48-volt system EQ Boost.
The Maybach-specific two-tone paintwork option is offered in eight different colour combinations, each perfectly complementing the SUV’s striking exterior features like the stylish pinstripe chrome grille, and the 58.4 cm Maybach multi-spoke forged wheels.
Headlamps with adaptive MULTIBEAM LED technology come as standard, its partial main beam capable of blocking out other road users without dazzling them, while its ULTRA RANGE Highbeam can increase the range on clear roads by 150 metres.
Another highlight in the Mercedes-Maybach GLS exterior is the electrically extending running boards, which light up and emerge silently when the doors are opened to make entering and exiting the vehicle safer and more convenient.
On the inside, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS boasts generous dimensions to ensure comfortable seating for all occupants. The Executive Rear can also be utilised as an office space or as a private relaxation lounge, offering fully-reclining seats as well as a refrigerated compartment with silver-plated champagne flutes.
Further emphasising seating comfort, all seats are electrically adjustable, heated, climatized, and equipped with massage functions. For constant connectivity, at least four USB ports and WLAN/Bluetooth® are available for occupants to power their devices, while the MBUX Rear Seat Entertainment System lets users play media content from their phone, tablet or laptop on the two fixed full HD display screens.
In terms of safety, the assistance systems fitted as standard include the PRE-SAFE® system, which takes a host of measures to reduce the stress and strain prior to an impending accident. For more efficient parking, Active Parking Assist and the 360° camera make manoeuvring easier by producing a 360° image of the parking space, as well as a virtual bird’s-eye view of the car.
Prices for the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and Mercedes-Maybach GLS start at RM1,928,815.76 and RM1,789,453.18 respectively, though prices may vary according to individual customisation.
