Lamborghini has already made a supercar for the road, now the Squadra Corse presents the SC20, a unique open-top track car type-approved for road use. It’s the second one-off engineered by the motorsport department, designed by Centro Stile in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
The goal behind the SC20’s creation was to build a unique vehicle that was extreme in both design and performance. It had to feature aerodynamic solutions inspired by racing Lamborghinis such as the Diablo VT Roadster, Aventador J, Veneno Roadster, and Concept S.
The aerodynamic engineers at Lamborghini hand-polished the carbon fibre body, which contributes to delivering optimal airflow for both performance and the cockpit’s occupants, so that even when soaring at high speeds, the ride is always a comfortable one. Two fins frame the pronounced front splitter, while the air intakes on the front hood are inspired by those of the Huracán GT3 EVO, and the sculpted body sides take inspiration from the Essenza SCV12. The rear is topped by a large carbon fibre wing that can be set in three different positions: Low, Medium, and High Load.
As far as aesthetic goes, the SC20 features exclusive details, starting from the body colours on a Bianco Fu base, which the Blu Cepheus livery stands out. The same shade is reflected in the interior, alternating with Nero Cosmus and Bianco Leda. In the passenger compartment, carbon fibre is used for the dashboard cover, rear wall, door panels, centre console and steering wheel trim, in addition to the monocoque. The seats are upholstered in Alcantara and leather, with the shells of the seats also featuring carbon fibre. Finally, the door handles are machined from solid aluminium, and the air vents are created with 3D technology at the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory.
“The SC20 is a combination of sophisticated engineering, Italian craftsmanship, sportiness and advanced design,” said Maurizio Reggiani, Chief Technical Officer of Automobili Lamborghini. “It is also an example of applying our V12 engine and carbon fibre to a radical open-top vehicle that unmistakably carries the Lamborghini DNA.”
The 6,498 cm3 V12 engine is an aspirated twelve-cylinder that delivers 770 CV at 8,500 rpm and develops 720 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. It’s managed through the optimised seven-speed Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) gearbox. The power is discharged to the ground by the four-wheel drive system with central electronic differential, and the Pirelli PZero Corsa tyres are mounted on single-nut aluminium rims, 20 inches in front and 21 inches at the rear.
“The SC20 is one more technically and styling exercise that associates Squadra Corse experience with Lamborghini design, masterfully interpreted by our Centro Stile based on the customer’s wishes, which was the focus of the project during the entire vehicle development and construction process,” commented Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Motorsport.
