OPPO hosted its third annual OPPO INNO Day this week, debuting a set of innovations and products that showcase the best of its technological developments. In line with the new brand proposition, ‘Inspiration Ahead’, OPPO looks to the future with the reveal of its first ever foldable phone, an assisted reality Air Glass, and a 6nm cutting-edge imaging NPU.
This year, the brand embraced the metaverse for OPPO INNO Day, holding the event in-person as well as online in a virtual venue called the OPPO INNO WORLD. Attendees who entered the digital space could customise their own avatars, navigate the virtual landscape, and interact with other users, in addition to watching the live OPPO INNO Day event.
Whether experienced physically or virtually, the headliners of the two-day event were the show-stopping new products and technologies announced by OPPO. Keep scrolling to read about the standout innovations.
OPPO Find N
Among all the technological debuts announced at OPPO INNO Day, the brand’s first foldable flagship smartphone was undoubtedly a highlight. A product of four years of development and six generations of prototypes, the OPPO Find N seeks to be the answer to the issues of utility, durability and user experience that have plagued foldable devices thus far.
The first foldable smartphone to use a landscape ratio for its inner display, the OPPO Find N makes it easier for users to switch between its 7.1-inch inner display and a 5.49-inch outer display. With a unique water-drop hinge design, the phone’s fold area boasts a much less noticeable crease, while the gap in between displays when folded is eliminated for a more integrated look.
Thanks to the advanced Flexion Hinge, the device can freely stay upright when unfolded at any angle between 50-120 degrees. This means the OPPO Find N can be used as a mini laptop for easier note taking, or as its own tripod for simpler camera recording and video calls.
OPPO Air Glass
Also generating much excitement was the announcement of the OPPO Air Glass, an aR (assisted Reality) smart glass that projects information onto the wearer’s field of vision. At the swipe of a hand or the shake of the head, weather and calendar information can be displayed before the user’s eyes.
When paired with another Air Glass, the translation function allows users to communicate in different languages with ease through automatic transcribing and translation. The wearable device is also able to enhance public speaking and presentations, with the help of the teleprompter application’s adaptive text display.
Users travelling by foot or bike will find the navigation function useful, while the Explore Nearby application brings up information about stores and attractions that are close by the user’s location. Sporting a sleek, minimalist design, the lightweight monocle waveguide device uses OPPO’s own Micro Projector, advanced Micro LED and custom technology to provide bright, sharp content in both indoor and outdoor settings.
MariSilicon X
Another big reveal was OPPO’s first self-designed cutting-edge imaging NPU, the MariSilicon X, which will be available with the Find X Series next year. With its powerful ISP, images can be taken with a 20bit 120db dynamic range, while the image contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 between the darkest and brightest parts delivers images that are far more accurate to life.
Ushering in a new era of computational photography, the MariSilicon X brings a landmark leap in performance and power efficiency, harnessing the power of AI Noise Reduction algorithms to produce clearer and sharper videos. With better dynamic range and colour reproduction, this marks the first time 4K AI HDR Night Video capturing is possible on an Android phone.
The NPU boasts incredible power, achieving 18 trillion operations per second (TOPS), with an impressive power efficiency of 11.6 TOPS per watt, promising elite-level performance that doesn’t drain the battery.
