Such was Victoria Beckham’s inspiration for her Fall/Winter 2018 collection, and such was the impression presented during the show. But the striking difference is how the figure-hugging dresses in her debut collections have now been replaced by tailored pieces that emphasize structure over curves.
Perhaps this resonates with the changing of the times, as independence and individuality are becoming increasingly significant values for today’s women. It was because of her embrace of this evolving diversity that Beckham decided to showcase the collection at a more intimate location – the James Burden Mansion on East 91st Street.
“I want you to be able to see the details, and to hear them,” she justifies to the smaller crowd. These ‘details’ included tailored coats, strappy belts, printed motifs, square-toed flats, supersized totes and most outstanding of all – a faux fur leopard print trench.
While the palette consisted mostly of muted greens, browns and navy, the collection was far from dull. On the contrary, the effect was an appeasing laid-back practicality that stays true to the label’s niche of dressing multi-tasking women starved for time.
