Earlier this month, French house Louis Vuitton announced its new flagship store, the Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme, set in two resplendently historical hotel particuliers classic Parisian townhouses.
Despite the ultra-modern interiors, waves of nostalgia course through the three-storey buildings, located in the very same neighbourhood in which Vuitton founded his first store in 1854.
Since then, the buildings have been drastically altered, particularly during a destructive “renovation” in the 1980s.
Returning the once fit-for-royalty townhouses to its former glory, architect Peter Marino has redesigned and reinstated the townhouses to reflect their 18th century grandeur.
Behind the original façade, Marino’s near 16-ft ceiling stature and extensive use of glass allow for more natural light to enter the polished and contemporary space. Large windows and doorways further illuminate the leather goods, textiles, fragrances, accessories, jewellery and timepieces on the ground floor.
Taking the stone stairs up to the mezzanine floor will find visitors in the Men’s Universe department, while a further climb to the first floor will present Women’s Ready-to-Wear shoes and accessories. On the second floor, the brand’s travel-related products share space with Objet Nomades, a collection of designer travel and home items.
