Donatella puts together a collection reminiscent of ’90s trends like flared pants and mesh vests, but with a fresh take for the new generation in which the brand resonates with.
What happens when cowboys and cowgirls get a makeover for the beach, clubs and city streets? A standout fashion statement – at least under the direction of Donatella Versace, as was the case for Versus Versace’s Spring Summer 2018 collection.
“Versus is about individuality, bravery and pleasure,” the designer emphasises on the brand’s ethos. “This (collection) is for everyone who dares to express themselves in everything they do.”
Demonstrating that bold expression in Central Saint Martin, where many of her students graduated from, it was unmistakably apt how Donatella put together a collection reminiscent of 90’s trends like flared pants and mesh vests, but with a fresh take for the new generation in which the brand resonates with.
Opening the show was a series of plaid streetwear with matching plaid cowboy-bucket hats, and the occasional bikini and briefs. As clashing as it may sound, trust Donatella to pull it off with nods of approval from its intended audience.
The rodeo-and-beach-meet-streets pieces slowly graduated to club-appropriate attire in the shape of mini dresses, structured jackets, and graphic-printed designs; while footwear alternated between fringed cowboy boots, studded slippers and sandals, heels and sneakers.
Even the accessories made a statement of its own – thick chokers, pistachio neck scarfs with striking chain-and-belt motifs, and large totes emblazoned with the brand name.
